About the role

As the Group Transport Planning & Operations Manager you will play a key role in the leadership of the Transport Planning Leads and the wider Transport Team and act as a support for the Group General Manager Transport and support the overall productivity, cost and quality for all delivery services performance goals on a national level. 

 

Role responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading the day-to-day operations, performance and conduct of the team, through providing clear role accountability, coaching and direction
  • Collaborating with the Group GM Transport to set and drive the organisational Transport vision, operational strategy, and resourcing needs
  • Translating the national transportation strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth, assisting in the implementation of organisation-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operational planning
  • Ensuring monthly reporting, review analysis of transfer and delivery network utilisation, service & costs including freight recovery opportunities/recommendations
  • As COR Champion advise the Group of leading practice COR, road transport requirements, incident investigation, monitoring of changes to legislation and accreditation and enforce carrier compliance against Chain of Responsibility and JB Group safety obligations
  • Design and implement activities/processes related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation to ensure successful deliveries, carrier compliance and an optimal customer experience
  • Manage the contractual relationship with all carriers and ensure obligations are met on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis
  • Ensure effective sourcing, onboarding, continuous training, and performance management of delivery service providers (DSPs)

 

About you

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • 8+ years of experience managing large operations and teams, within home delivery, logistics, transportation, operational planning, warehousing, or related field
  • Experience in retail and/or e-commerce environments, essential
  • Strong experience in transport planning and scheduling
  • A strong aptitude to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the transport industry, transport equipment and relevant legislative and regularly requirements such as Chain of Responsibility
  • Strong experience in leading and building large (and geographically dispersed) teams
  • Strong computer literacy and exposure to general software packages (such as Microsoft Office Suite) and warehouse software (such as Oracle, SAP, AS400), including transport management systems
  • Strong financial and business acumen
  • Comfortable embracing change, resilient in overcoming challenges, and flexible in adjusting priorities, all whilst maintaining a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or logistics, desired
